What is IoT (Internet of Things), well explained

Internet of Things (IoT) is connected devices and sensor systems, which can transfer messages in certain format say MQTT (this is a lightweight messaging protocol). Here we will give summery of IoT. Detailed will explain in next article.

 

Full form of MQTT is Message Queuing Telemetry Transport. For time being just memories MQTT name only.

 

IoT devices and systems is gradually making our daily life easy.

 

An IoT system is combination of smart sensor nodes to collect data either real-time or offline, having data communication over a network and the back-end data management & processing to extract information.

 

A simple use cases of IoT are wearable (like watched), smart vehicles, smart homes, traffic prediction & control, weather monitoring & forecasting, indoor location-based services, health monitoring of machines & structures, augmented/virtual reality.

 

We already used to Desktop, Laptop, tablet and Smartphones. Now IoT is extending “Internet connectivity” beyond these standard devices.

 

These are very small devices say electronic chips, which can communicate and interact over the Internet, which can be remotely monitored and controlled.

As you can see in picture that all stuff which we use in our house not have small embedded (electronic chip) attached to it, which can send messages over internet to external world.

 

Because these devices are connected to internet hence it can be controlled from remote location.

 

Here mobile application plays a major role.

 

Mobile user can now control these devices from their applications developed to get connected with these devices.

 

These device primary send / receive message in MQTT format which is something very basic and light weight than XML or JSON.

 

all data gets store in cloud for current / further use.

 

You can see in picture that devices are connected to cloud through internet, devices send receive message to Cloud. Other devices like desktop, smartphone, tablet and laptops controls / manage these devices through cloud.
